Damaged steel cord needs to be trimmed cleanly and only where the repair actually is — the rest of the tire's structure can't take any collateral damage. This conical grinding stone, shorter than the 65 mm version, is built for spots with even less room to work. The narrower the cone gets at a given point, the deeper and more precisely it reaches into the repair channel. The stone is meant to run with a high-speed grinder such as the 14-319 and sits on a 6 mm shank, ready for chuck mounting.
What it's used for
Trimming frayed steel cord ends is one of the trickier parts of a tire repair — it has to be precise enough not to disturb the surrounding layers. The shorter 27 mm cone gives more control in tighter, shallower damage, where a longer tool would be harder to maneuver. The narrow end still reaches deeper into tight spots, while the wider end covers more surface.

Why does steel cord need to be trimmed?
Frayed cord ends can puncture the repair patch from the inside or keep damaging the tire under load. Trimming them cleanly is a condition for a repair that actually lasts.
How is this different from the 65 mm version (14-353)?
The shorter 27 mm cone gives better control in shallower, more confined damage, where a longer tool would get in the way of precise work. The working principle is the same — a diameter that changes along the cone.
Can I use this stone with a grinder other than the 14-319?
The manufacturer recommends the 14-319 high-speed grinder. If you use a different tool, make sure it doesn't exceed 20000 RPM.
