The same tool can also be used as a valve core tool, so one piece of kit replaces two separate items on the bench. The whole tool is oxidized for extra corrosion protection, and its edges give a more secure grip.
What it's used for
A sand-clogged, corroded, or slightly damaged valve thread can make it hard to fit a nut or cap even though the valve itself still works fine. Instead of replacing the whole valve, running the calibrator over the external thread (Ø 7 mm) or internal thread (Ø 5 mm) restores its correct shape. The same calibrator also handles a valve core swap, so one compact tool covers two routine tasks in the shop.
