External Reducer for EM Valve Inflation

Approx. 11 mm thread, rubber seal included | Screws onto a large-format valve | Sold per piece

This external reducer is a second way of solving the same problem as our internal reducer: a standard inflation gun tip won't fit the oversized thread on an EM valve. Here, the reducer screws onto the outside of the EM valve rather than into it, which can be the more convenient option depending on the mounting setup.

What this reducer is for

Valves fitted on earthmover-sized (EM) tyres usually have a wider thread than typical car or tractor valves, which means a standard inflation gun won't connect without an adapter. This external reducer screws onto the outside of the EM valve and provides a thread of roughly 11 mm, matching commonly used gun tips. A rubber seal keeps the connection airtight while inflating, cutting down on air loss.

Applications

  • Inflating large-format EM wheels with a standard service inflation gun
  • Tyre shops servicing construction and mining equipment
  • Field work, where specialised fittings for large valves aren't always on hand
  • Setups where fitting onto the outside of the valve is more convenient than the internal reducer (17-589)
  • Fitting and removal that also works comfortably with protective gloves
Installation tip Before screwing on the reducer, check that the external thread on the EM valve is clean and free of dust or leftover sealant — debris makes it harder to seat the reducer precisely and can cause leaks. Tighten it by hand, without impact tools, until you feel resistance from the rubber seal, and after inflating check the connection for any hissing sound that would indicate a leak.

Frequently asked questions

How does this reducer differ from the internal reducer (17-589)?

The external reducer screws onto the outside of the EM valve, while the internal reducer (17-589) screws into it. Both solve the same problem — letting you inflate with a standard gun — and the choice between them mainly comes down to which is more convenient for a given valve setup.

Which valves does this reducer fit?

Large-format (EM) valves used on construction and mining equipment wheels, which have a wider thread than typical car or tractor valves.

What inflation gun can I use once the reducer is fitted?

The reducer provides a thread of roughly 11 mm, matching common, widely used inflation gun tips, so no specialised fitting for large valves is needed.

Do I need special tools to fit it?

No — the precise thread finish and perforated edges let you tighten the reducer by hand, without extra tools, even while wearing protective gloves.
